Power outages, small hail reported in Dallas after thunderstorms pass through Thursday

Thousands of people in Dallas-Fort Worth dealt with outages Thursday evening after a thin line of thunderstorms passed through the area.

More than 3,000 Oncor customers were without power as of 7:30 p.m., according to a map on the company’s website, which showed a large number of outages in southern Dallas.

“In Oak Cliff and South Dallas, we did see a significant number of lightning strikes,” Dunn said.

Oncor crews are working to address problems, but it is too early to determine an accurate time for restored services, Dunn said. Estimated times for restoration are determined by multiple factors, including historical data from past outages.

Some parts of Dallas saw pea-sized hail from the storms, but Daniel Huckaby, a meteorologist National Weather Service in Fort Worth. said the agency is not aware of any significant damage or flooding. The highest amount rainfall recorded — 0.79 inches —was in the Red Bird neighborhood.

“The main activity remainder of the evening are going to be off to our south and east,” Huckaby said.

Thursday’s storms were part of a cold front moving through the area, according to the National Weather Service.
