Shell casings found after authorities break up ‘large gathering’ Monday in Mansfield

Police are asking the public’s help in learning more about a “large gathering” Monday night at Katherine Rose Memorial Park in Mansfield.

Around 7 p.m., officers were dispatched in response to a call about a large gathering at the park, which is in the 300 block of North Walnut Creek Drive, Mansfield police said. Mansfield is located about 20 miles southeast of Fort Worth.

Officers were trying to disperse the crowd when they received reports that shots were fired, according to police. Authorities later found shell casings at the location, police said.

As of 11 p.m. Monday evening, police did not know who fired the weapon and had not found anyone who was injured.

Police did not say how many people are estimated to have been at the location or the purpose behind the gathering. The investigation is ongoing.

No officers were injured during the incident, police said. Officers from multiple agencies, including the Arlington Police Department assisted in dispersing the crowd, police said.
