Fort Worth police shoot, injure armed suicidal man after ‘deadly threat’

A suicidal man was shot and wounded by Fort Worth police Tuesday evening after he armed himself and pointed a gun at officers, authorities said.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Fort Worth officers responded to the 5600 block of Wedgworth Road after receiving a 911 call from a woman who said her husband was suicidal, armed with a gun and refusing to leave their home.

Responding officers saw the man sitting on a porch with a handgun, authorities said in a press release. He “presented the officers with a deadly threat,” prompting three of them to open fire.

A police spokesperson clarified Wednesday morning that the gun was pointed at police.

“Once we are able to gather body cam footage that we are able to release, we will definitely do so,” Fort Worth police spokesperson Tracy Carter said.

The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital in stable condition. It’s not immediately clear what charges he might face.

Fort Worth police said its crisis-intervention team was dispatched, but did not arrive before the shooting took place.
