DNA evidence clears Dallas man wrongfully convicted of 1997 murder in Deep Ellum

Martin Santillan quickly wiped a tear from his face so people in the packed courtroom wouldn’t see him cry.

But he couldn’t suppress his emotions as he heard Dallas County prosecutor Cynthia Garza apologize for the more than 25 years he spent jailed for a murder he didn’t commit

“That’s what I’ve been waiting to hear since July of 1997,” Santillan, 49, tolds on Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency, where his family and lawyers gathered for a celebratory lunch afterward.
