Pair of confirmed tornadoes in Parker County injure 5 people

As storms moved through North Texas early Friday morning, two tornadoes touched down in Parker County, injuring five people.

The two EF-1 tornadoes occurred just before 5 a.m, with peak winds of about 100 mph, said David Bonnette, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

According to the weather service, one touched down southwest of Whitt and ended near the junction of Parker, Jack and Wise counties. The second began west of Poolville and moved northeast, ending near Highway 199 at the Wise-Parker county border.

Bonnette said two people were injured in the tornado near Whitt and three in the one near Poolville. Photos from the weather service showed an overturned RV near Whitt and several structures damaged northeast of Poolville.

Storms moved into North Texas from Oklahoma in the early hours of the morning, Bonnette said, bringing with them gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

Bonnette said the storms weakened as they moved across North Texas, reaching Tarrant County about 5:30 a.m. and Dallas around 6:30.

There were no reports of hail in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Bonnette said. Wind gusts peaked at 39 mph in northwest Fort Worth and 33 mph in Dallas, he added.

As the storms moved in early Friday, Bonnette said they brought a cold front, lowering temperatures in the morning. Temperatures are expected to be more moderate the next few days, with highs right around 70 degrees through Wednesday.

“Early next week looks pretty great,” Bonnette said.

The next good chance of storms is expected to come Thursday.
