Very warm Tuesday, but storms and heavy rain possible Wednesday and Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — You can expect another warm and humid day with near-record high temperatures in the upper 80s. A cold front will move into Southeast Texas Wednesday, bringing showers and storms. Heavy rain could form later Wednesday night and Thursday at times. Street flooding may occur. Some heavy rain and storms may also form on Friday.

If you want dry weather, get out on Tuesday. We’ll be in the 80s, but humidity may make it feel closer to 90 degrees in the afternoon. South to southeast breezes may gust to near 30 mph.

Could we get any severe weather on Wednesday?

While it is possible, the chance of severe weather is low at only around 5%. Any storm that rumbles in could bring gusty winds and up to quarter-size hail.

How much rain could fall from Wednesday to Friday?

At this time we believe 3-6″ will be common. Some will get less than this range, and some will get more. There are some indications that up to a foot of rain could fall somewhere in Southeast Texas.

Is any flooding possible?

Street flooding is definitely possible. Depending on where the highest totals stack up, some creeks could come out of their banks. Bayous could experience rapid rises, but at this time it is unlikely any bayous will come out of their banks. River flooding is also unlikely due to how dry it has been over the last few months.

What’s the outlook for Easter weekend?

After Good Friday, rain chances are likely to decrease Saturday down to 40% and Sunday down to 20%. While the sky will likely stay dry on Sunday, the ground will likely be wet from all the rains. Keep that in mind for any Easter egg hunts. Temperatures should stay in a comfortable range with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s and highs in the mid to upper 70s.
