SWAT standoff in Pantego neighborhood with person carrying firearm, police say

Authorities in Tarrant County are in a SWAT standoff with an armed person who is refusing to exit their home, according to police.

Around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Pantego Police Department and Tarrant County Sheriff’s deputies tried to serve a warrant to a resident in a neighborhood in Pantego, a small Tarrant County town that is almost entirely surrounded by Arlington, police said in a Thursday news release. The house is on Grant Place, according to police.

The person, whose name has not been released by police, showed a firearm when authorities tried to make contact. A deputy at the scene fired their gun “a short time later,” and the person “retreated” back inside the house, police said.

Authorities do not believe anyone was struck by gunfire, but believe that the person is a danger to themselves and others.

Arlington and Pantego police are responding to the incident, and authorities have asked the public to stay away from the area. Some residents have been evacuated and others have been asked to shelter in place, according to the news release.

Arlington police are communicating with the barricaded person, and “are attempting to resolve the situation as peacefully and quickly as possible,” the release stated.

Police have not specified how many residents have been evacuated, and it is unclear if anyone else is inside the home with the barricaded person.
