Easter is almost here, and so is candy. Which chocolate is most popular among Texans?

Easter is right around the corner, and for once Texans blend in with the crowd — at least when it comes to their candy preference for the holiday.

In Texas, Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs are the bestselling candy along with most of the country, according to poll results from grocery-delivery app Instacart. The Harris Poll surveyed around 2,000 American adults for some of the questions, and Instacart examined its own data from purchases on its site to determine the top seasonal candies.

The survey also revealed that among the 2 in 3 Americans who celebrate Easter, more than 90% will probably indulge in a decadent treat. And with inflation rates starting to slow down in early 2023, it’s possible people might dole out some more cash to satisfy their sweettooth.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs took the crown in 29 states. Tied for second place, and popular in five states each, are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Starburst Easter Jellybeans and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate.

In the most popular Easter candies list, it appears that chocolate is king. Most people plan to purchase chocolate eggs and chocolate bunnies.

“When it comes to Easter candy, there’s no denying that chocolate reigns supreme, with seven out of the top 10 candies repping cocoa,” the survey said.

Outside of chocolate, classic Easter confections are still popular among Americans, with many planning to buy the Peeps’ marshmallow chicks and colorful jelly beans.

Passover trends

Easter isn’t the only holiday being celebrated this spring. The Jewish holiday Passover began April 5 this year and lasts anywhere from seven to eight days.

Instacart also assessed food trends for this holiday, which is known for its variety of special and meaningful dishes.

Unsurprisingly, Matzah, which is a crisp, unleavened flatbread and an integral element of Passover, was most popular.

Other traditional foods associated with Passover are expected to see a surge in popularity around this time. Trends from last year indicate orders for lamb, matzo ball soup, gefilte fish and brisket will increase significantly, Instacart said.
