Man accused of manslaughter after fatal crash Sunday on I-20 in Grand Prairie, police say

A man is facing multiple manslaughter charges after he sideswiped a car Sunday on Interstate 20 in Grand Prairie, causing a secondary crash, police said.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., a Chrysler eastbound in the 500 block of I-20 lost control and struck a Mercedes passenger vehicle, police said. The Mercedes was “pushed toward the right shoulder” of the highway and crashed into a Chevy, which had three people inside, stopped on the highway, according to police.

A male passenger of the Chevy died at the scene and a second passenger died at a hospital, according to police. The third passenger was hospitalized and is in critical condition, police said. No further information was provided related to the identities of those who were injured in the crash.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office will identify the two people who died after their kin have been notified, police said.

Witnesses told investigators that the driver of the Chrysler, whom police identified as William Thompson, 22, was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed, police said. Officers arrested Thompson at the scene of the crash. He was at the Grand Prairie jail Monday evening and his bail has not been set, police said in a news release. It is unclear if Thompson has an attorney.

Thompson is facing multiple charges in connection with the crash, including two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault, according to police.

Police have not said whether the driver of the Mercedes was injured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.
