Houston: The Alliance for Disaster Relief, Houston-Karachi Sister City Association, Medical Bridges, and Helping Hand for Relief and Flood-Devastated Pakistan by Houstonians. Two more containers of medical supplies were sent to Pakistan for the flood victims. The container departure ceremony was held at the main office of Medical Bridges in Houston. The new Pakistani Consul General of Houston, Muhammad Aftab Chaudhary, prominent businessman syed Javaid Anwar, Alliance Coordinator Saeed Sheikh, and representatives of the Helping Hand organization also participated. Efforts are still ongoing to help the victims of the super flood disaster and people suffering from waterborne and other diseases resulting from the flood. In this context, two 40-foot containers of new medical supplies worth about half a million dollars were prepared. The medical equipment and other supplies included in these containers will be provided to the public hospitals in Pakistan whose providing medical aid to the flood victims. A total of $1 million worth including cash was also raised by the Alliance prior to 2021. The organizations have helped more than 50,000 people with relief goods, 35 houses have been built, and another 155 houses are under construction.

Speaking at the event organized by the Alliance, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said that more effective efforts are needed to help and restore the people affected by the floods in Pakistan. She emphasized the need for more assistance from the United States government and pledged to continue her efforts in this regard. Sheila Jackson Lee said that she had visited the flood-affected areas in Pakistan last year with a Congressional delegation.

Aftab Chaudhary, the newly Consul General of Pakistan in Houston, thanked the American government and Pakistani-American philanthropists for helping the flood-affected people of Pakistan and pledged to continue joint efforts to deliver aid. Speaking at the event, renowned businessman Javaid Anwar said that the rehabilitation of Pakistan’s flood victims is a long process for which the collective efforts of the entire Pakistani community are indispensable. We salute their hard work in the service of humanity. Apna’s Dr. Naveed Zafar, Siraj Narsi and Mahmood Ahmed, Shahzeb Sheikh, Bina Sheikh, Director Dr. Yaqub Sheikh, Ilyas Hassan Chaudhry, and Saad Ansari also participated in the ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Alliance Coordinator Saeed Shaikh said that the target they had set in the first phase of providing one million in cash aid and one million in relief goods has been completed today, and he is very grateful to the community.
