Teen arrested, facing murder charge in connection with fatal Johnson County shooting

A teen faces a murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend in Johnson County, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred Saturday evening in the 6800 block of County Road 913 during an “after-prom party,” according to a WFAA-TV report. Spencer Orlando Gilbert II, 19, was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including murder, in connection with the fatal shooting, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said in a Monday news release.

“More charges are expected to be filed in the following days,” the release stated.

Multiple people reported that someone had been shot in the face at the party, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sunday news release. The person who was shot, whom the sheriff’s office only identified as a “young man,” later died.

Witnesses told officers that a “fight broke out” during a party at the locationand escalated into a shooting, the sheriff’s office said, adding authorities had information about a “possible suspect.”

Gilbert was arrested Sunday in Houston after he crashed during a police chase, according to the WFAA-TV report.

The news station also reported that Gilbert forced a teen to leave the party with him following the shooting.

A lieutenant at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WFAA-TV that authorities are trying to extradite Gilbert back to North Texas.
