Fog returns Tuesday morning, rain chance returns by the end of the week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We’ve enjoyed a couple days of sunshine and low humidity, but this is May and summer is not far away.

As moisture levels slowly increase Tuesday, fog is likely to develop and it could get dense in spots. Temperatures will dip into the low 60s for most of us. An upper air disturbance passing overhead during the day will bring a canopy of cirrus clouds to help block out the sun at times, but the low cloud and fog should still clear out a few hours after sunrise. High temperatures will climb into the low 80s.

What does the rest of the work-week look like?

You’ll feel the moisture levels rise throughout the week as the Gulf breeze picks up, and thunderstorm chances return for the latter half of the week as upper air disturbances roll over the warm, humid air. Highs could top 90 as soon as Friday! Factor in the humidity and heat index values will reach into the upper 90s.

Is severe weather possible this week?

It’s possible but not a given at this time. As moisture levels rise along with the temperatures, the amount of storm fuel in the atmosphere will increase to high levels Friday and Saturday. Small upper-level disturbances passing overhead could be all it takes to ignite some strong thunderstorms.

What else can we expect for the weekend?

There is a chance for scattered thunderstorms both days with little difference in temperatures. Lows will be in the low 70s with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Saturday does have the higher rain chance at 40% as an upper air disturbances passes overhead. Sunday’s rain chance is currently at 30%. Any storm that pops up will be strong and could turn severe.
