Man fatally shot Monday in Kaufman County, 1 in custody, sheriff’s office says

Authorities in Kaufman County are investigating a fatal shooting reported early Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 9000 block of Neal Road, just northeast of Forney, Texas where they found a man who had been shot, said Investigator Scott Whitaker, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

The man, whose name authorities have not shared, was pronounced dead at the location Whitaker said.

Deputies confronted a man, whom Whitaker described as the suspect, near the location, leading to a standoff that lasted less than an hour, Whitaker said.

The man surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody for questioning, Whitaker said. No charges have been filed at this time, he added.

No further information was provided. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and Kaufman County’s precinct two constable’s office also responded to the incident, Whitaker said.
