It felt like summer in North Texas on Friday as temperatures reached the mid-90s.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth recorded a temperature of 96 degrees Friday afternoon at DFW International Airport, breaking the previous record for May 5 set in 1984.
A meteorologist with the weather service confirmed the record was broken about 4:01 p.m., roughly an hour after the weather service announced the record had been tied.
Breckenridge in Stephens County also hit 100 degrees Friday, the weather service said.
Despite the unseasonable warm day, normal and even close to below-normal temperatures should return in the next two weeks, according to weather service meteorologist Monique Sellers.
Sellers also said to expect rain and storms next week. She called May “a very interesting time” in North Texas as temperatures and humidity rise, setting the stage for storms.
