Fort Worth man arrested after allegedly threatening to carry out downtown mass shooting

A 22-year-old is facing a misdemeanor charge after a video of a man threatening to complete a mass shooting in downtown Fort Worth went viral.

Officers were made aware of a video circulating on social media, in which an individual threatened to shoot multiple people, Fort Worth police said in a Friday news release. Multiple units investigated and obtained an arrest warrant for a person of interest, who was located and arrested, police said.

It’s not clear when the video was posted but the man in the recording said he was going to go downtown Sunday and shoot people at random.

Police did not name the individual but the social media handle for the man had his name as Zyshon Murphy, who remains in Tarrant County Jail on a terroristic threat charge causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

According to court records, he was arrested Friday and booked early next morning. His attorney declined to comment.

In a post on his Snapchat, a man with Murphy’s name said he was going to downtown Fort Worth to shoot people, including police and civilians. He shows a rifle on the ground and said in the video he bought another gun.

“I hate all of you,” the man said. “I want you all dead.”

The text on the video said, “May 7th 3:00pm Sunday IS YALL DEATH DAY SO DONT BE IN DOWNTOWN.”

Fort Worth police said they are investigating the incident and did not release additional details.
