Fort Worth officer charged with aggravated assault after pointing gun at woman, police say

A suspended Fort Worth police officer was booked into Ellis County jail on Wednesday after being indicted on an aggravated assault charge, according to the department.

Officers responded to a Love’s Travel Stop in Midlothian on September 19, where a woman told police Kouame Kouassi, 42, had taken a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at her, according to police.

Kouassi, off duty at the time of the incident, was placed on “restricted duty” while the criminal and administrative investigations took place.

This week, an Ellis County grand jury indicted Kouassi on an aggravated assault charge and an arrest warrant was issued. Kouassi turned himself in to police at the jail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

The officer was placed on temporary suspension pending the completion of the criminal and investigative cases, Fort Worth police said Thursday.

Kouassi had been with Fort Worth police for five years at the time of his arrest and was worked as part of the patrol team.
