Scattered storms Wednesday afternoon… some could be strong

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A line of showers and storms moved through the western portion of SE Texas this morning bringing heavy rain and lightning. This line broke apart and dissipated before making it to Houston. This afternoon another disturbance will move in which could bring scattered storms to the area. Isolated strong to severe storms will be a possibility with gusty winds over 60 mph and quarter size hail being the main threats.

Wednesday is also another ozone action day. Ozone is a lung irritant that can trigger asthma attacks in sensitive individuals as it restricts airways. Coughing and scratchy throats are other symptoms of ozone exposure.

When could we get rain this week?

Storm chances go up to 40% Wednesday and 30% Thursday. Just like what we had Tuesday, a few of the storms could become severe, with hail and damaging winds the main threats. After Thursday, the rain chance drops to less than 20% as the atmosphere dries out even more.

How is the weather looking for Memorial Day weekend?

Memorial Day weekend looks hot (surprise!), but it now looks like we may have at least a slight chance for rain as weak upper air disturbances roll overhead, especially on Memorial Day. For now we’ve got rain chances at 20% or less, and we’ll keep you posted as the holiday approaches.
