Man fatally shoots wife before shooting himself, Cleburne police say

A man fatally shot his wife before shooting himself early Saturday in Cleburne, police said.

Cleburne police officers responded about 2 a.m. to a home in the 300 block of Gatrix Avenue after a man told dispatchers he had shot his wife, the department said in a news release. When officers arrived, they found an elderly woman dead and a man who was still alive with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as 82-year-old Flora Jean Walker.

Police said the man, who has not been identified, was sent to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital in critical condition. It’s not clear what his current condition is.

No details were immediately shared on what led to the shooting, and police have not announced any arrests as of Sunday afternoon.

Officers are continuing to investigate.
