The heat is on… expect heat advisories this week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It’s about to feel the way it so often does in Houston in the summertime… hot! The weak ahead is all about high pressure that will keep the rain away and the heat in play.

The steamy week will feature morning lows in the mid-upper 70s and afternoon high temperatures in the mid-upper 90s every day beginning Monday and lasting through, at least, Father’s Day weekend. Heat index values then could range between 105 to nearly 110 for the week too. Those numbers would be hot enough to trigger heat advisories for the viewing area by the middle of the week.

Is this early summer heat wave unusual for this time of year?

Not necessarily. Just this time last year we had a stretch of days in the mid-upper 90s too! But the extent0 to which we’ll have these hot and dry days, at least 7-10 in a row, is. Record high temperatures for Thursday, Friday and Saturday could be close to tied as well if temperatures reach 100 degrees or above. And remember, the feels like temperature will definitely make it feel that hot no matter what.

What is happening in the tropics?

The tropics continue to remain quiet, and no development is expected over the next couple of days. You can read/watch more about it on our Tropical Update page.
