Dallas under excessive heat advisory through Tuesday; hot weather here to stay this week

Triple-digit temperatures and humid conditions are here to stay for at least a couple more days in North Texas.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for multiple counties — including Dallas, Tarrant and Collin — from noon Monday until 8 p.m. Tuesday. This follows a heat advisory that was in effect for the region throughout the weekend and expired Sunday evening.

According to a Monday morning advisory, “dangerous heat” will persist throughout the week with heat indices possibly rising to between 110 and 120 in North and Central Texas.

“This heat is dangerous and precautions should be taken,” the advisory said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to three environmental emergency calls and two people were hospitalized, said Jason Evans, a spokesman for the department.

MedStar, which provides emergency medical service to Fort Worth and the city’s surrounding areas, said four people, all of whom were adults, were hospitalized Sunday with heat-related illnesses. One person was in critical condition, according to a Sunday news release.

By Wednesday, the first official day of summer, temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth are expected to slightly decrease.

Highs will remain in the high-to-mid 90s with lows in the upper 70s, according to the KXAS-TV (NBC5) forecast, before increasing again into the weekend.

The weather station recommends staying hydrated by drinking water and avoiding extended time outdoors.
