Man arrested in Grand Prairie crash that killed child, injured 2 people

A 21-year-old man turned himself in Saturday after authorities say he fled the scene of a crash in Grand Prairie that killed a child and injured two people Friday night.

Damian Torres faces charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault, accident involving death and accident involving injury, Grand Prairie police said. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

A silver Ford Mustang was traveling south in the 2200 block of South Belt Line Road about 10:45 p.m. Friday when it struck a Honda Civic that was turning left onto East Cober Drive, police said.

A child who was a passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police said the Honda’s driver was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

The Mustang’s driver, who police said is Torres, ran off. A passenger in the Mustang was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The child’s identity has not been released.

According to police, the crash remains under investigation.

Torres is being held at the Grand Prairie jail, police said. with bail set at $110,000.
