Body uncovered in Spring-area home was ‘there for a while,’ HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A person’s body found inside a Spring-area home may have been decomposing for at least two months before deputies began investigating it on Monday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

HCSO’s homicide investigators began looking into what they described as a “skeletonized” female body at about 5 p.m. in the 20400 block of Long Cypress Drive.

Harris County Precinct 4 constable deputies were first at the scene regarding the death. One person was detained.

Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland said a man at the home called 911 to report a death and told officials the body had been there for a while.

That man, believed to be the woman’s son, was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation, and deputies expect to interview him.

Neighbors told ABC13, a woman and her son live at the home, but they did not interact with anyone and she had not been seen for a while.

“I haven’t seen her in a very, very long time,” neighbor Jennifer Jones said. “They don’t talk to anybody so it’s not unusual to not see them.”

While the sheriff’s office said the body appeared to be female, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will confirm if that’s true as well as how the person died. HCSO also said investigators couldn’t immediately tell if foul play was involved due to the body’s decomposition.

The sheriff’s office added that it had no record of any prior calls for service to the home, including those for welfare checks. Gilliland added there’s evidence to suggest the man may have been living at the home with the body.
