Driver, infant who was in passenger’s lap die after high-speed crash in Old East Dallas

A single-vehicle crash left two dead, including an infant, and another person in the hospital early Saturday in Old East Dallas.

Officers responded to the 6400 block of E. Grand Avenue near Highway 78 and determined that about 2:45 a.m. a gray 2007 Mercury Milan was traveling at a high rate of speed when the car hit a curb then struck a tree, according to police.

Police said the driver, 25-year-old James Bernard III, died at the scene while an infant and 22-year-old female passenger were taken to the hospital.

The child died and the woman is in serious condition, police said. Their identities have not been publicly released.

Crime in The NewsThe infant was in the passenger’s lap at the time of the crash, police said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
