Rain chances subside as the heat intensifies

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Most of southeast Texas picked up between 1 to 3, upwards of 4, inches of rain this week. Beneficial seeing as next week is looking quite hot and dry.

It’ll be dry overnight Saturday with temperatures falling back into the mid-upper 70s. Another mix of sun and clouds for Sunday with afternoon highs reaching the mid 90s. A stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out, but Sunday will be drier than Saturday.

And that dry trend takes us into next week as another heat ridge builds back into the region. This will keep temperatures in the mid-upper 90s throughout the week with a daily heat index between 100 and 105.

How long will this next heat wave last?

At this point, high temperatures could be in the mid-upper 90s beginning Sunday and last through the following weekend, if not week too. Heat Advisories could be issued and extended for a few days in a row, particularly at the end of the week. Remember the definition of a heat wave would be days in a row with high temperatures at or above 95 degrees.

What are you monitoring in the tropics right now?

The tropics remain nice and quiet, but record warm water temps through the main development region of the Atlantic could help strengthen any storms that do eventually form. For a full overview of what’s happening in the tropics, head to our Tropical Update page.
