Autopsy shows no torture marks on police officer’s body

LAHORE: The postmortem report of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shariq Jamal, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a DHA flat on Saturday, found no evident sign of violence or torture on his body.

The report, however, confirmed some blood stains on his lips and teeth which could be result of some damage to his lungs because of taking poisonous food or medicine.

The report also found an old injury on his elbow, besides stiffness of the body.

“No external injuries present on the body except for abrasion on the left elbow joint”, reads the postmortem report.

An official privy to the investigations into the mysterious death of the senior police officer said, apparently the deceased had taken a heavy dose of some medicine that led to his sudden death.

He said it would be hard to reach any “confident finding” in the matter because close relatives of the deceased have refused legal proceedings, citing family reasons.

He said it would be premature to say whether he was taking medicines to fight depression.

To ascertain the exact cause of his death, the official said, the police have sent specimens for chemical analysis.
