Man accused of cleaning crime scene, removing evidence in fatal shooting of 12-year-old

A man is accused of concealing the firearm that shot 12-year-old Trey’Shawn Eunes in Fort Worth last month, per a partially redacted arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

Fort Worth police confirmed the arrest of Decarlos Jordan, 36, on Tuesday. He is being held charges of tampering with and removing evidence from the scene.

Trey’Shawn was at a Juneteenth barbecue with his father on June 19 when a 3-year-old discharged an unsecured gun, accidentally shooting and killing the older boy.

The shooting

Trey’Shawn’s father, Jarvis Eunes; the toddler’s father, Rashad White; and several of their friends gathered at an office building in the 5500 block of Brentwood Stair Road the night of June 19.

Investigators were told Eunes was outside grilling food while Trey’Shawn and the toddler were inside one of the building suites playing video games.

Then at least one adult witness heard a gunshot, per the affidavit.

Trey’Shawn ran outside, clutching his side, the affidavit states. Camera footage from the office building reviewed by police shows Trey’Shawn collapsing in Eunes’ arms.

The affidavit said Eunes then loaded Trey’Shawn into White’s vehicle and drove to the hospital.

Fort Worth police were dispatched to Cook Children’s Medical Center at 10:23 p.m., when they received a call that a child with a gunshot wound had arrived via a private vehicle, the affidavit said.

Trey’Shawn died at 10:48 p.m.

Eunes and White were interviewed at the hospital by the detective, according to the affidavit.

Alleged evidence tampering

At about 10:14 p.m., cameras inside the office building recorded Trey’Shawn and another unidentified man running out of te office where the shooting occurred, the affidavit states.

After, Decarlos Jordan appears on camera walking into the office suite and walking back out holding a handgun in his left hand.

Police said Jordan is then seen mopping the hallway outside and carrying several items out of the suite. He also carried a bag filled with unknown items out of the room, per the affidavit.

Additional footage from outside the building showed Jordan mopping up blood in the parking lot, the affidavit said. He then placed what appeared to be a firearm in his vehicle and drove off.

Fort Worth police obtained a search warrant for the office suite later that night. During a search of the suite, officers found a single fired 9 mm cartridge case. No gun was found, per the affidavit.

Jordan later told police he was in another room when he heard a “pop.” He said he ran into the room where the children had been playing video games and picked up the handgun after the 3-year-old dropped it.

Jordan admitted to mopping blood off of the floor. It is clear that Jordan was aware the shooting occurred and cleaned up the crime scene, investigators said in the affidavit.

Jordan is in Tarrant County custody, according to jail records. In Texas, evidence tampering related to a possible felony case carries a sentence of between two and 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Police have not made further arrests or announced plans to file additional charges in the case.
