No evidence of explosive device or shooting at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth, officials say

Authorities are investigating a bomb threat at Hulen Mall, but, as of Sunday evening, have not found any evidence of an explosive device, officials said.

About 5:30 p.m., Fort Worth police and fire crews received multiple calls about an active shooting and bomb threat at Hulen Mall, located in the 4800 block of South Hulen Street, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Officers and firefighters searched the area, but did not find any explosive devices or anyone who had been injured.

“We believe that what people thought were gunshots was actually the sound of people slamming doors as they were fleeing the building,” the department said in a Sunday news release.

There was “very heavy” police and fire presence in the area around 7 p.m. the release stated.

In a tweet shortly after 8 p.m., Fort Worth police said the threat has been deemed false.

People at the mall were evacuated as a precaution Sunday, according to a KDFW-TV (Channel 4) report.

In a written statement Sunday, Tracy Carter, a spokesman for the Fort Worth Police Department, said “a male” reported the threat.
