Large grass fire reported Sunday afternoon in southern Dallas, officials say

More than 100 fire personnel battled a large grass fire in southern Dallas reported Sunday afternoon, Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said.

Shortly before 5:15 p.m., emergency crews were notified of a fire near Botham Jean Boulevard and the South Central Expressway service road, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Firefighters found multiple fires at the location near where railroad tracks in the area cross the Trinity River, according to the department.

As of 9:20 p.m., the first was “largely under control and de-escalating,” Dallas Fire-Rescue said. No injures have been reporte. The fire is still considered active, and authorities will investigate its cause.

The blaze shut down all train activity in the area and led to street closures and detours Sunday, according to DFR. Dallas police assisted in the response.

“Due to the number of fires and dry conditions, these fires posed a dynamic and complex fire scene requiring the coordination of many resources,” the department said in a written statement Sunday evening.

Multiple parts of North Texas, including Dallas, Collin and Tarrant counties, were under an extreme heat warning through Monday evening.

A large grass fire in Tarrant County earlier this month led to evacuations of multiple neighborhoods.
