Triple-digit heat could break records in Dallas ahead of typically hottest time of year

This week’s forecast of triple-digit temperatures in Dallas could break some daily records, according to meteorologists.

Triple-digit temperatures in North Texas are likely here to stay until at least next week, as August — the area’s typically hottest time of year — begins.

Temperatures are expected to continue heating up through Wednesday when the forecast calls for a record high that day of 110, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5). Afterwards, the heat is expected to gradually decrease throughout the next week before finally dropping below 100 again next Tuesday.

Rain chances are low to nonexistent for at least the next few days, creating relatively low humidity. Slim precipitation chances plus breezy conditions raise the threat for fires.

The National Weather Service’s excessive heat warning for all of North Texas is in place through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

This July in Dallas-Fort Worth was much milder than record-setting July 2022, when 27 of the month’s 31 days were 100 degrees or hotter.

Monday’s high temperature in Dallas broke 100 degrees as expected, bringing the total number of triple-digit temperature days this July to 18, according to weather service data. The area also experienced a five-day stretch of triple-digit days toward the end of June, maxing out at 102.

In Dallas-Fort Worth, the average first day of 100-degree weather is July 1 and the final day is typically around August 26, according to the historical data. Trends show that August, on average, usually has more triple-digit days than July.

Although the those highs tend to end by September, the heat usually sticks around until October.
