Suspects arrested in Shreveport in connection with shooting, carjacking of Dallas officer

Three people were arrested Wednesday in Shreveport, La., in connection with the shooting and carjacking of a Dallas police officer this week, according to the Dallas department.

Redricous Lewis, 19, Redtravion Polk, 17, and Xavier Cook, 18, were arrested on charges of aggravated robbery, Dallas police said. Only Lewis appeared in Shreveport city jail records Thursday afternoon. Dallas police did not specify where Polk and Cook were being detained. It was unclear whether they had attorneys.

What police allege each person did in the shooting and robbery was not clear. Dallas police said the investigation into the shooting was ongoing and that additional charges were possible. Shreveport police didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Earlier Thursday, jail records showed Lewis and two others had been arrested during an investigation into the attempted homicide of a police officer. Tytionna Lewis, 26, and Camron McCullough, 18, were arrested on drug and gun charges, jail records show. It was unclear whether they had attorneys.

Authorities obtained search warrants for the Lewises and McCullough in Shreveport, about 200 miles east of Dallas, and all were found with 110 grams of what was believed to be marijuana, two bags of cocaine, a digital scale, packing material and multiple firearms, according to the records.

During the search, Redricous Lewis “jumped from a second-floor window and fled from officers on foot,” the records state.

The arrests came the night after three people allegedly carjacked and shot an officer in the leg in the 2400 block of West Northwest Highway, near Storey Lane in northwest Dallas. The officer, whose name was not released, was treated and discharged from the hospital hours later.

Police Chief Eddie García said Wednesday that the officer, assigned to the department’s crime response team, was in an unmarked car conducting surveillance when another car parked behind him, pinning the officer. Two armed people and the officer got out of the cars and a shootout ensued, García said.

The officer was shot and at least one of the attackers stole his car, the chief said, adding the car was later found abandoned a short distance away.

It was at least the third time a Dallas police officer was shot in the line of duty this year and the eighth shooting involving a Dallas police officer this year. It happened two days after task force officers from Dallas, Mesquite and the U.S. Marshals fatally shot a man suspected in a homicide.

García is expected to release video footage and answer questions about the shooting at noon Friday.
