A 72-year record high may fall on Sunday

Along with the intense heat, the fire danger will remain critical, especially for areas along and west of I-35. Red flag warnings are in effect.

A break in the heat may come in the form of a summer-time cold front by Monday evening. This frontal boundary will drop highs into the mid to upper-90s for Tuesday and lows into the lower to mid-70s for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

This break will be brief as dangerous heat returns to North Texas from Wednesday afternoon into next weekend.
