Less moisture means more heat on Wednesday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Tropical Storm Harold made landfall at about 10 a.m. Tuesday on Padre Island, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to parts of South Texas. Its moisture is moving away from Houston, and that means we’ll have less clouds and more heat in the days to come.

There will be just enough moisture left over in the coming days for a very low rain chance of 10-20%. Triple-digit temps will return and stick around for quite a while.

How close are we getting to the August 2011 record of 24 consecutive triple-digit days?

Tuesday’s high of 97 ends the triple-digit heat wave at 23 days. So this 100-degree heat wave will at least come in second place to the 24-day record set back in 2011. The added sunshine on Wednesday and beyond will allow another triple digit wave to start and last the better part of a week.

What else are you monitoring in the tropics right now?

The Atlantic remains active with two tropical disturbances we are monitoring and Tropical Storm Franklin in the Caribbean. For a full overview of what’s happening in the tropics, head to our Tropical Update page.
