Plano West Senior HS to resume classes Tuesday; HVAC repairs ‘ongoing,’ officials say

Plano West Senior High School students will resume class Tuesday now that HVAC issues at the campus reported last week have been fixed, district officials announced Monday.

The district canceled classes Friday and Monday because of mechanical problems with the air conditioning system at the school. More than 2,600 students attend Plano West.

In a Facebook post Monday, the district said the HVAC system at the campus is “now functioning,” but added that the improvement is due to a “temporary repair” that will “maintain normal indoor temperatures for the next several days.”

“Temperatures in all campus buildings remain stable and within normal operating range,” the post read.

Officials will monitor the system for the rest of the week and “additional repairs” are ongoing, according to district officials.

School officials will bring in outside HVAC contractors for a “more extensive and permanent repair” after school on Friday, officials added.

“We expect to have all repairs completed before classes resume on Tuesday, September 5, following the Labor Day holiday,” the post read.
