1 dead, 1 rescued in drowning call at Lake Lewisville, officials say

One person died and another was rescued Tuesday afternoon as emergency crews responded to a drowning call at Lake Lewisville.

A little before 3 p.m., the Frisco Fire Department responded to a call of a man drowning in the 7700 block of Snug Harbor Circle in Hackberry, the city said in a news release. When fire crews arrived on scene, they rescued one person from the top of an overturned boat.

Two others who were also on the boat made it safely to shore on their own. A fourth person on the boat died, officials said in the release.

Lewisville Fire Department crews located the unidentified man’s body and pulled him from the water just before 4:30 p.m. All four people on the boat were males in their mid-to-late 20s, according to the release.

Breaking NewsIt’s not clear what caused the boat to turn over. The city of Frisco said the Texas Game Wardens are investigating the drowning.

The drowning on Tuesday comes more than two weeks after the city of Lewisville said it is closing public access to the swimming beach at Lewisville Lake Park indefinitely. The city said the closure was due to safety concerns following several recent incidents including two fatal drownings of a 17-year-old boy and a 45-year-old man.

Three people drowned in early July in the lake, including a 19-year-old man who was swimming at the beach.
