Houston police received a call just before 5 p.m. regarding shots fired inside a house in the 4300 block of Vista Ridge Drive.

Police said when officers arrived, they noticed through a window that the woman was dead from a gunshot wound, and the suspect, presumed to be her husband, had barricaded himself inside.

According to HPD, the situation stemmed from an alleged domestic dispute between the two. HPD confirmed the man and woman were currently in the middle of a divorce.

Before the woman was shot, officials said she was on the phone with 911 when the gunshot was heard, police confirmed to ABC13.

Houston police also stated there was also a 3-year-old child present at the time of the shooting. The child was not injured but was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

It is unclear of the relationship between the child and the two adults.

The family of the woman and neighbors were seen behind several rolls of crime scene tape as officials got control of the situation.

Shortly after, the husband surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

According to officials, he is facing several charges, such as murder and endangerment of a child.
