Tainted CDA officials to be transferred out of estate, land wings for good

ISLAMABAD: In a major development, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) management has decided to move out all tainted officials of the estate and land wings of the civic agency.

Perturbed over recent alleged land scams, sources said CDA Chairman Anwarul Haq decided to transfer all officials of the estate and land wings with dubious backgroundto other directorates.

The estate wing deals with plots that have been allotted as well as commercial properties whereas the land directorate handles new allotment cases, including those of land affected persons.

Sources said there was a group of employees who manoeuvred their posting in these two directorates, which had become notorious for major scams.

List of officials being finalised; employees rotating transfer in these directorates to be moved out as well

They said during the last few years, a large number of alleged bogus allotment of land cases had surfaced in the land directorate.

The CDA’s security directorate pointed out over 100 alleged bogus allotment cases, many of which were referred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Dozens of plots were even allotted with back-date signatures.

Sources claimed that some of the officials of the land directorate were also allegedly involved in transferring plots from less-valued sectors to high-valued sectors for vested interest, throughcorrigendum. Similarly, some officials of the estate wing were also accused of handling many cases of agro farms and other commercial properties in a dubious manner.

After the alleged E-11 land scam worth billions of rupees, the CDA management had repatriated a few officers and suspended three officials of the land directorate.

“Yes, lists are being finalised of officials from the estate and land wings for their permanent transfers from these two directorates,” said a senior CDA officer.

He said those officials who had a tainted record were the main target, but those officials who always preferred to be posted in these two wings would also be taken to task.

The officials said there was a group of officials who were allegedly involved in bogus allotment cases, adding that there was a monopoly of some officials in the estate wing.

“The CDA chairman has directed us to finalise lists of all tainted officials to move them out of the two directorates in question for good as scam after scam were tarnishing the image of the CDA,” said an officer involved in finalising the lists.

He said the management was convinced that until the tainted officials were not moved out from these directorates, performance of both wings could not improve.

The officer said the same practice would be replicated in other CDA directorates as well.
