Suspect in custody after hours-long search in Ellis County, authorities say

Authorities in Ellis County took a suspect into custody Friday evening after a hours-long search in which nearby residents were asked to stay inside and lock their doors.

About 1 p.m., authorities were conducting an investigation near U.S. Highway 287 and Ennis Parkway, on the west side of Ennis, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office asked the public to avoid the area during the search. It urged those living in the immediate area to “stay inside and lock their doors.”

A little before 8 p.m., Deputy Jerry Cozby said the suspect had been captured. He said no additional details would be released Friday evening.

No information has been released about the suspect’s identity or the investigation. It’s unclear what charges the suspect may be facing.
