Man accused of fatal July 4 shooting in McKinney apprehended in Dallas, authorities say

Authorities have arrested a man accused of fatally shooting a man and wounding another in McKinney on July 4, police said.

About 11 p.m., officers were notified of a shooting in the 700 block of Bumpas Street, police said. Responding officers found two men who had been shot in an apartment complex, according to police.

One of the men, 28-year-old Christian Ross, died.

In a news release Thursday, the Texas Department of Public Safety announced that authorities on Sept. 29 arrested Joshua Darnell Lockett, 24, in Dallas.

Lockett had been on the state’s most wanted list and accused of multiple charges, including murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Texas DPS. A Texas Crime Stoppers tip helped lead to Lockett’s arrest.

McKinney police on Thursday confirmed Lockett’s arrest was related to the July 4 shooting. He was at a Collin County jail, and his bail for the murder charge is $250,000, according to online records. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

In 2019, Lockett was convicted on a deadly conduct charge and served two years in prison, according to Texas DPS. He was arrested in April by Plano police for a unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon charge, the department added.
