Fort Worth ISD elementary school staff member shot and killed in campus parking lot

A staff member at David K. Sellars Elementary School was fatally shot Wednesday in a back parking lot of the school before classes began, according to police.

Forest Hill officers responded about 6:50 a.m. to the school in the 4200 block of Dorsey Street and found a woman had been shot multiple times, police said. She was taken by helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital where she died.

Investigators said they believe the victim, who has not been publicly identified, had arrived at work and was speaking to a person she knew in another vehicle when the shooting occurred.

The suspect left the scene in a silver Chevrolet Impala before first responders arrived, police said. The vehicle was found unoccupied in Fort Worth and has been taken as evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on the shooting can contact Forest Hill police at 817-531-5250.

Fort Worth ISD released a statement early Wednesday saying “a tragic incident occurred” that resulted in the death of a “beloved staff member.”

“Our hearts go out to their family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement says. “The staff member was dedicated to serving their campus and had a profound impact on students and the staff.”

The district said there is no ongoing threat to the school community and additional counseling staff would be on site to help those who need it. Class proceeded as scheduled Wednesday.

Forest Hill Mayor Stephanie Boardingham said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon that a staff member died in a “distressing incident that occurred outside David K. Sellars Elementary School” before classes began.

Boardingham called the incident a “senseless act of violence.”
