Teen faces criminal charge in fatal shooting of 13-year-old in Oak Cliff, police say

Authorities are investigating after a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot Sunday morning in east Oak Cliff, police said.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Harlandale Avenue, near the intersection of South Marsalis and East Illinois avenues, where someone reported a shooting, according to police.

Inside a home in the area, responding officers found a 13-year-old who had been shot. He later died at a hospital, according to police.

Investigators believe a 15-year-old boy accidentally shot the other teen, police said in a Sunday news release. Authorities took him into custody and he is facing one count of criminal negligent homicide, police added.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
