GB to restore transport fares to July-level

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government on Wednesday made an announcement that they would be aligning public transport fares and the prices of essential commodities with the rates effective in July 2023.

Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan directed relevant authorities to implement these adjustments within 48 hours, in the wake of massive drop in the petroleum prices in Pakistan.

To oversee these efforts, CM Khan formed a committee comprising six members including senior minister Hameed Khan, home minister Shams Lone, minister for excise and taxation, special assistant to the chief minister on information, special assistant to the chief minister on commerce, and secretaries of relevant departments.

In the meeting, it was decided to promptly reduce transport fares and the prices of essential goods across all districts of GB.

While addressing a presser, Home Minister Mr Lone commended the caretaker federal government and all relevant departments for their efforts in lowering petroleum prices.

Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information Eman Shah said the government’s decision involved aligning transport fares and the rates of essential commodities with those from July of this year. He noted that in July, the petrol price stood at Rs253 per litre.
