Police arrest man accused of firing gun at strangers in 2 separate occasions in Arlington

Arlington police have arrested a man accused of two unprovoked shootings near the same location in less than a month.

No injuries have been reported in connection, Arlington police said in a Thursday news release.

The most recent shooting occurred Wednesday outside of a gym in the 900 block of West Arbrook Boulevard, police said. A person told police they were inside their car near the gym and looking at their phone when a man with a gun approached the vehicle. As they drove away, the man fired “multiple shots,” and struck the vehicle, police said.

A different person told police that on the evening of Sept. 27 they were leaving the parking lot of a store in the 1100 block of West Arbrook Boulevard — less than a mile from where the Wednesday shooting occurred — when a man got out of a vehicle and shot their car.

Investigators believe Kelechi Ezugwu, 29, is responsible for both shootings, which appear to be random police said, adding that neither victims knew Ezugwu. He was arrested Wednesday without incident at a business in the 3700 block of South Cooper Street, police said. He is facing two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
