Boy in custody after 14-year-old found fatally shot in a Greenville city park, police say

Authorities say a teen may have been killed when someone was “playing with a gun” in Greenville on Wednesday night.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers went to Warren Park, located 3100 Webb Ave., after reports about a gunshot. They found the teen with a gunshot wound. It was unclear as of Thursday morning whether the boy had died at the location or at a medical facility.

Greenville, a city in Hunt County, is located about 51 miles northeast of downtown Dallas.

Investigators say the teen may have died because of “another person playing with a gun,” police said in a Thursday news release. Officials have not released the name of the boy who was fatally shot.

A boy, whose age and name has not been released, was taken into police custody in connection with the fatal shooting, officials said. He is facing charges of manslaughter and tampering with evidence, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 903-453-0428.
