Off-duty deputy undergoes surgery after being shot Monday inside Fort Worth credit union

A person was arrested after a Tarrant County sheriff’s deputy was shot while off duty and working security Monday afternoon, said Fort Worth police Chief Neil Noakes.

The deputy was working in full uniform at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union in the 6400 block of Brentwood Stair Road, Noakes said at a news conference.

Police first received a call from the location at 3:42 p.m. Four police officers arrived shortly after, talked to witnesses and viewed available surveillance footage. No information was immediately available about the suspect’s identity or charges, or about what led to the shooting. The case is still under investigation by the department’s major crimes unit.

The officer was injured and undergoing surgery, but Noakes did not share his current condition. .

The suspected shooter barricaded themself in a home on Lynwood Hills Drive and was surrounded by law enforcement, according to staff member nearby.

The officer’s name will be released by the sheriff’s office. Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn was unavailable to speak to media because he was at the hospital with the injured deputy, Noakes said.

County Judge Tim O’Hare posted on X about the shooting, including that the suspect was in custody at 5:28 p.m.
