Weather Alert Day for Thursday due to chance for severe storms

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — You’ll notice clouds returning Wednesday but it’ll still be dry. Thunderstorms moving in ahead of a cold front could be strong to severe on Thursday.

And due to that, has declared a Weather Alert Day for Thursday, November 30th.

What should we expect with the storm chance for Thursday?

The Weather Team has been closely monitoring the chance for strong to severe storms on Thursday since last weekend. And as of Tuesday, the Storm Prediction Center has also highlighted southeast Texas for the threat of severe weather Thursday. That being said, scattered strong to severe storms are possible across the region Thursday with damaging winds, heavy rain, large hail and isolated tornadoes potential impacts. Hence the Weather Alert Day designation.

When should we be on alert?

The first batch of storms Thursday could develop as early as 8 or 9 a.m. as they develop west near Austin. Storms will the push east into Houston arriving around lunchtime. That’s the first wave. Then another round of storms could develop later in the afternoon and early evening and last into the night. And we wont rule out any storms between those timeframes too. And any storm that develops Thursday has the potential to grow and become severe.

Will showers and storms continue into the weekend?

Yes, rain chances will continue through the weekend with more of an unsettled pattern taking hold. And it’s possible that rain totals could greatly range across southeast Texas with our western counties only picking up around half an inch to an inch from Thursday through Sunday where as our eastern counties could see 2 to 4 inches.
