Lewisville woman arrested in slaying of Ellis County acquaintance, officials say

A woman was arrested Wednesday in the killing of an acquaintance days earlier in the Red Oak area of Ellis County, according to the county sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded about 10 a.m. Monday to a home in the 1000 block of Vinson Lane and found a man lying face down in the front yard with apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old Jess Deon Dotson, of Red Oak.

Investigators later identified 33-year-old Yaralitza Dee Shaw, of Lewisville, as a person of interest.

Ellis County deputies interviewed Shaw on Wednesday at the Coppell Police Department, where she told detectives she killed Dotson, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators obtained a warrant for her arrest and she was taken into custody.

Shaw remained jailed in Ellis County as of Thursday on a $500,000 bond, records show. It was unclear if she had an attorney.

An obituary for Dotson said he was “outgoing and always ready to help those in need.”
