Near-freezing temperatures to start Monday morning, frost possible

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Saturday felt like summer, fall for Sunday but Monday morning will feel like winter with morning lows starting near freezing!

Winds will die down Sunday night and with a clear sky, temperatures will land in the low-mid 30s Monday morning. Areas of frost could also form overnight, so you might want to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors Sunday night. A Freeze Warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Monday for Montgomery, Waller, Colorado and Austin counties. We are not expecting a hard freezing through and temperatures will warm up quickly once the sun rises.

Thankfully, another bright and sunny day will help temperatures warm into the low 60s. And we keep the calm and seasonal conditions through Wednesday before changes arrive later in the week.

How cold will it get behind the front?

As the wind settles down Sunday night, temperatures are likely to dip into the middle and upper 30s across Houston. It’s looking like frost will form on rooftops and grassy surfaces across much of Southeast Texas by sunrise Monday. It’s also possible many outlying communities could enter light freeze territory.

How long will the cold weather stick around?

After our near-freezing Monday morning, temperatures will quickly rebound into seasonal territory for the rest of next week. That means you can generally expect lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s.

When’s our next chance for rain?

A pattern change arrives later in the week that will usher in Houston’s next best rain chance on Friday. The timing and placement of any showers or storms, and their intensity, is still dependent on a few factors but right now Friday looks to be our best shot at some widespread rain for southeast Texas.
