Police chase ends after car crashes into home where owner still fixing damage from last crash

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police have one person in custody following a five-mile chase.

They said the chase began down the I-45 North Freeway at Crosstimbers at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, ending when the suspect’s vehicle slammed into a home in the 100 block of West Mitchell Road.

Police said the white SUV was stolen, and the driver did not stop.

The car crashed into a pillar that supports a driveway overhang.

Sylvia Mendoza said this isn’t the first time a car has crashed into her home.

“What if one of my boys was coming out of one of their cars from parking, and then, all of a sudden, just get hit?” she said.

Mendoza said she was still fixing the damage from another crash that happened earlier this year.

“We still haven’t finished fixing all of that up,” she said.

Police said other people were detained at the scene, and nobody was injured.

Thursday’s pursuit is one of many three months after HPD instituted a policy that requires supervisors to approve all pursuits.

In addition, the policy means officers can’t pursue criminals accused only of minor thefts, traffic violations, or misdemeanor warrants.

We asked HPD if the chase falls under the new policy, and they said it would be reviewed.
