Officials find no threat after reports of ‘suspicious mail’ at Dallas’ federal courthouse

Authorities found no threat after investigating “suspicious mail” at the Earle Cabell Federal Building in downtown Dallas on Wednesday afternoon.

A Dallas Fire-Rescue call log shows 11 units responded about 1:50 p.m. to the courthouse at 1100 Commerce Street, near South Griffin Street, for reports of hazardous materials.

Jason Evans, a DFR spokesman, deferred to the FBI for additional information but said the department’s hazmat team was dispatched to investigate a “white substance.”

According to Melinda Urbina, a spokeswoman for the FBI’s Dallas field office, the investigation pertained to “suspicious mail.” The courthouse was not evacuated, she said, but no one was allowed in while the mail was being tested.

The agency determined there was no threat to public safety, Urbina confirmed in an email about 4:45 p.m.

No additional details were immediately available.
