2 suspects identified after HPD and HSCO chase that ended in 7 crashes: Officials

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Both the Houston Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were involved in chases that ended in seven crashes near the same intersection in northeast Houston, authorities said.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., two officers with HPD were pursuing two suspects who were said to be driving an alleged stolen vehicle near the 2200 block of Little York Road.

According to investigators, the cruiser’s lights and sirens were activated.

At the time, HPD said its helicopter also assisted in the chase, but someone reportedly aimed a laser in their direction.

Investigators said the stolen car, a silver two-door Honda Civic, blew through a red light at Little York and Aldine Westfield, causing HPD to follow. Police said that is when the patrol car collided with a truck that was believed to have the green light.

The stolen vehicle then crashed into two other cars. According to police, a brief foot chase ensued before the driver and passenger were taken into custody.

Officials said both are looking at charges.

According to officials, one of the cars the suspects crashed into was part of a separate chase being handled by HCSO.

At about 8:56 p.m., an HCSO deputy initiated a traffic stop near Seven Mile Road on a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that refused to stop, starting the pursuit.

HCSO said the driver of the Chevrolet evaded the deputy westbound in the 2300 block of Little York before turning onto Aldine Westfield.

Officials said that is when the driver of the Chevrolet entered through the intersection and crashed into the silver Honda Civic that was involved in HPD’s scene.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were arrested without any incident, according to officials.

The driver is Ronaldo Gonzalez. He is facing two felony for evading arrest and aggravated assault for nearly hitting first responders when he drove through HPD’s scene.

His passenger, Estaban Jaramillo, is facing a felony misdemeanor for evading police on foot.

The two officers with HPD were hospitalized but are expected to be OK.
